DTF Advantages

  1. Low cost – DTF prints can be simple one and done prints with very little needed to setup
  2. Durability  РDTF prints adhere to a garment without peeling, and avoid common pitfalls such as cracking and fading.
  3. Flexibility – DTF prints can be applied to cotton and polyester, as well as blends and other materials.
  4. Ease of Use – Once printed and cured, these can be stored indefinitely to be used on any garment in the future without issue.
  5. Scalability – DTF prints can be done as simple one-offs for a DIY gift or project, up to large scale bulk orders.

Disadvantages of Other Methods

Below are some disadvantages of other common printing methods. While each method has its own use case, DTF offers more ease for small productions to scale to larger ones.

Direct to Garment (DTG) Disadvantages

  1. DTG transfers can only be pressed onto cotton.
  2. More preparation steps are needed for pressing DTG prints.
  3. Garments need to be pre-treated before pressing
  4. Setup cost is high due to requiring separate frames for various garment types and sizes.

Screen Printing Disadvantages

  1. High setup cost for the individual screens used for each colour.
  2. Colour limitations compared to the high customizability of digital printing.
  3. Bulk printing required to bring down costs.

Vinyl Heat Transfers Disadvantages

  1. Weeding takes time and makes more fine, and intricate designs, either impossible or very difficult to do.
  2. Vinyl does not have much elasticity.
  3. Over time vinyl will begin to crack and peel from washing and the stretching of the fabric.

Dye Sublimation Disadvantages

  1. Sublimation can only be applied to polyester or high polyester blends (with less desirable results on blends).
  2. Fabric must be white or other light colours to work effectively.
